May McAvoy


May McAvoy (New York, 8 september 1899 - Los Angeles, 26 april 1984) was een Amerikaans actrice.

McAvoy made her debut in 1917 and is best reminded of her role of Esther in the movie Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925). The film would become one of the most spectacular of the period of the stupid movie. Two years later, she was featured in the world's first soundtrack, The Jazz Singer (1927).

Her voice would be demolished after the emergence of the soundtrack and McAvoy stopped filming. In the 40s and 50s she returned and had mostly small roles in movies. Her latest movie show was in 1957. In 1984, McAvoy died after a heart attack. For her contribution to the movie, McAvoy got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
