Domitius Ulpianus (circa 170 - 223) was a famous Roman jurist from Tire.

He held several important functions in the imperial administration and was supposedly killed in 223. From him, much has been preserved thanks to the different codices we still own. About one-third of the Digesta ( Corpus Iuris Civilis), a legal book composed of the classical Roman jurists, consists of fragments of his work. Also in the Fragmenta Vaticana, the Collatio, the Scholia Sinaitica, and so forth ( Juridica anonyma) we find pieces from his works back. We find comments on legal texts and edicts, disputations (Disputations), opinions (Responses), institutes (Institutions), monographs (among other things about the duties of civil servants) and notes (Notae).
