Anna De Weert

Anna De Weert by Emile Claus at the Museum of Fine Arts (Ghent)

Anna De Weert (1867 - 1950) was a Belgian painter. This granddaughter of Karel Lodewijk Ledeganck was a pupil of Emile Claus. Just like with Claus, the Leie was a central theme in her work. De Weert is considered an important luminist.

The painting of her by Emile Claus may have been painted in the vicinity of the Hof ter Neuve in Afsnee aan de Leie. In this workshop De Weert spent the summer months from the mid-1890s, together with her husband, the Ghent liberal politician Maurice De Weert. The location is not far from the villa Sunshine of Claus in Astene. Externe link
