The Battle of the Porta Colina, fought in November 82 BC, was a decisive battle in which Commander Lucius Cornelius Sulla took over the power in the Italian city of Rome during the Roman Civil War against his enemies. The Samnites, led by Commander Pontius Telesinus, attacked the Sulla army at the Porta Collina. The battle lasted all night. The later triumvirus Marcus Licinius Crassus was the chief captain of Sulla's army and he defeated the Samnites completely. The Sami who survived the battle were captured and were slaughtered in the Villa Publica after the city took over, after which their bodies were thrown into the Tiber. An indirect consequence of this battle was the end of the Bellum sociorum.
