Guyana dollar

The dollar is the currency of Guyana. One dollar is one hundred pounds, but this subdivision is no longer applied by inflation. One US dollar is always equal to 190 Guyana dollars.

The following coins are used: 1, 5 and 10 dollars. The paper money is available in 20, 100, 500 and 1000 dollars.

In 1839, mostly guilders and stunners were used, which were then relieved by the British money system, in addition to Spanish, Mexican and Colombian money. From 1876 only British money was valid. Later, the US dollar was also used as a means of payment. In 1935 the British West Indies dollar (XBWD) was introduced. In 1965 this currency was redeemed by 1: 1 by the Guyana dollar. Externe link
