Heinz Hopf (Gräbschen (now Grabiszyn, part of Wrocław, former Breslau, in Poland), 19 November 1894 - Zollikon, June 3, 1971) was a German mathematician.

From 1901 to 1904 he visited Charles Karl Mittelhaus's high school, after which he visited the König-Wilhelm Gymnasium in Breslau. From a young age it was clear that he had a great mathematical talent. In 1913, he attended the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelm University, where he attended colleges with Ernst Steinitz, Adolf Kneser, Max Dehn, Erhard Schmidt and Rudolf Sturm. When the First World War broke out in 1914, Hopf took up service as a soldier. He was injured twice and received the first class of Iron Cross in 1918. Also see Externe link
