Memisa Belgium is a Catholic Belgian non-governmental organization that works for quality basic health care. Memisa stands for: MEdische MIsie SAmenwerking.
She is mainly active in Congo and Burundi. In addition, Memisa also supports projects elsewhere in Africa, in Asia and Latin America. Memisa was founded in 1988 and originated from Memisa Netherlands, which has been working on mission since 1925. She has been recognized as an NGO since 1991. In 1994 a first office was opened with a permanent office in Kinshasa.
Since 2009, Memisa has been committed in particular to the fight against maternal mortality. For this campaign she can count on the support of Lieve Blancquaert, who is also a meter of this organization.
Memisa Belgium can not be confused with the former Memisa Netherlands, an NGO that has been living under the name Cordaid since 1999.
