The Volksmarschall was a planned rank for officers of the Waffen SS.
Adolf Hitler came in 1944 with the idea of entering this rank for the Waffen SS. The Waffen SS was not part of the Wehrmacht, which meant that officers could never reach Generalfeldmarschall's rank. Hitler felt that the Waffen SS had to rank equally. Sepp Dietrich would be promoted to Volksmarschall by his success at the Ardennes Offensive, but the promotion failed.
Even a special marshal was designed for the rank. However, because nobody ever got the rank of Volksmarschall, this design disappeared in the archives of the Soviet Union. Externe link
