Andrej Mazoenov

He reached the final of European championships in 1988 and in 1992 together with his younger brother Dmitri Mazoenov, who won the World Doubles Cup, but could never write an international (senior) title in his name. Mazoenov made his debut on the international (senior) circuit during the world championships in Tokyo in 1983. That was the first of eight World Championships to participate in 1999. His most successful tournament was that of Chiba in 1991, where he won bronze in his doubles with his brother. It turned out to be his only medal at an official World Cup. Mazoenov missed another world title when he reached the final of the World Doubles Cup in 1992 with his brother again. Therein, the ruling champion Kim Taek-soo and Yoo Nam-kyu) nevertheless prolonged their title.

After Mazoenov became European champion in 1981 at the cadets and in junior junior 1984, he arrived in Paris 1988 closest to the same title for seniors. Until the final, Rus was on the right track, but in that he had to allow Swedish Mikael Appelgren to win his second (of three) European single titles. He placed himself for the European Top-12 from 1985 to 1991, but never exceeded seventh place (in both 1986 and 1988).
