Gerard Page.

Gerard Laman (Leiden, August 22, 1924 - Amsterdam, September 22, 2009) was a Dutch mathematician, who was mainly active in the field of graph theory.

After completing his final exam in Leiden City in 1942, he studied mathematics at Leiden University. In the last years of the war he had to subdue to escape employment in Germany. As a result, he completed his studies of mathematics with mechanical mechanics only in 1952. From 1949 he worked as a scientific assistant of Prof. Dr. J. Haantjes. From 1957 to 1967 he taught at the Technical University in Eindhoven and then at the University of Amsterdam until 1989.

His promotion took place in Leiden in 1959 with promoter Prof. W.T. from Est. His most important scientific contribution is the 'Laman-Count' in graph theory. Laman graphs are a family of scarce graphs, describing minimal rigid systems of rods and joints in the plane.
