Lopo Gonçalves, also known as Lopes Gonçalves (... - ...), was a Portuguese navigator of the fifteenth century. During the reign of Alfonso V he discovered Gabon for Portugal and in 1471, along with Rui de Sequeira, he was the first European to cross the equator. He reached Cape St. Catherine, about 200 km south of the equator. He navigated on behalf of merchant and navigator Fernão Gomes.
