pour point

The pour point is a feature of petroleum, petroleum products such as lubricants, domestic oil and diesel, biodiesel and other liquid products. It is the lowest temperature at which the product is just liquid. The pour point thus indicates what is the lowest temperature at which the product is still pumpable. Such products contain a small amount of waxy substances in solution. As the temperature drops, it drops, which first causes a cloud of liquid at the so-called cloud point. When the temperature drops, the product will not flow anymore and can cause clogging in pipes and pumps.

Standards have been laid down for determining the pour point, including the American Standard ASTM D97 and the International Standard ISO 3016 for the determination of the pour point of petroleum products. The determination of the pour point can occur:

There are devices on the market that can automatically determine both the cloud point and the pour point.
