William Cornysh (1430-1502)

William Cornysh, also known as William Cornysh the Old to differentiate him from the other William Cornysh, (1430 - 1502), was an English composer active in the 15th century. Biography modifies wikitesto

For a long time it was believed that there was only one composer named William Cornysh and that he was the composer of the pieces contained in the XX Songes (London 1530) manuscript. Today it is known that there was another William Cornysh, probably the father of the first, who wrote the Magnificat present in the Caius Choral Book and certainly not attributable to the other Cornysh for reasons of date of his composition (at that time the young man would have had only fifteen years).
