Horizontal barrier gradient

The horizontal barrier gradient is the ratio between the pressure difference between two contiguous isobars and their distance: the gradient is ultimately the force that drives the masses of air and the winds will therefore be stronger than the greater the pressure difference between an isobar and the other, and the lesser their distance (the strong gradient), and the weaker and variables the less the pressure difference between the two isobars and the greater the distance.
