Europe is a Swedish band from Upplands Väsby. Originally, Europe was a progressive rock band, but to get more airplay, Europe moved on to a softer sound with a more prominent role for the keyboards. The band started in 1979 under the name of "Force." They won in Sweden in late 1979 under the name 'Europe', 'Luciarock', a talent hunt for bands. They played "In the Future to Come" and "The King Will Return". These songs can be found on their first CD 'Europe'.

Europe broke internationally with The 1986 Countdown Countdown. There has also been a world tour called The Final Countdown. This number was in number 1 in many countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium, and is valid for many as a rock classic. It was the best-selling single in 1986 in the Netherlands. During the 80's, Europe scored a few hits, of which Rock the Night, Carrie and Superstitious are the best known. In Japan, Seven doors hotel, a number of the debut album Europe, is a rock classiser. It was used as a leader in a well-known film.
