Peter Høeg (Copenhagen, May 17, 1957) is a Danish author who started his career as a sailor, dancer and actor. Life and work

Peter Høeg grew up in Copenhagen, where he completed his study literature at the University of Copenhagen in 1984. After that he worked as a sports teacher and dancer. In 1988, he debuted with Forestillation in the twentieth century (Presentation of the twentieth century). After this novel and his second book Fortællinger at Night (Night Tales) from 1990, interest in his work grew. His major breakthrough came in 1992 with his crime novel Frøken Smilla's sense of snow (Smilla's sense of snow) for which he was awarded the Glass Key. This world's bestseller was filmed by Bille August in 1997 as Smilla's Sense of Snow.

For the novel The possibly suitable (Border cases) from 1993 was distinguished by The Golden Laurel and the Danish Critic Prize. Less promising was the criticism of Women and Monkey from 1996. After that, it remained quiet for Peter Høeg for ten years, until 2006 the silent girl (Silence and Girl) came out. This novel was not well received by the Danish reviewers who found the book "too complex" or "too postmodern", while Norwegian writer Jan Kjærstad picked it up for him and ignored the tatteredness of contemporary Danish criticism.

Peter Høeg has also founded the Lolwe fund, which supports women and children in the third world. The proceeds from the novel Kvinden and aben went to this fund.

In 2006, in the Dutch theaters, a drama of Han Römer was shown by the Toneelgroep Oostpool of the book The Possibly Suitable under the name Grensgevallen. Worklist
