Porta Sant'Isaia

The gate of Sant'Isaia was at the intersection between the ring roads, the homonymous street and the start of via Andrea Costa. Compared to the other doors it was a short existence: it was built in 1568 to consolidate the main gate on the long western side of the wall, after the Pratello gate, built in the 13th century, was closed in 1445 following the related disorder at the killing of Annibale I Bentivoglio. It opened onto the important artery that led to the Carthusian and the Porrettana road towards Pistoia. It was demolished in 1903, also following a recent and ruinous collapse of its cornice.
