Waterschapshuis (Wierum)

The Waterschapshuis in Wierum in the Dutch province of Friesland is a former schipper's house annex. The property has been in possession of the water board since 1918. History

The property was likely to be built in 1832, commissioned by the shipowner Andries Davids Vellema, born in Holwerd (1796-1851). This skipper and his wife Ynske Hendriks van der Geest (1789-1873) were also innkeeper and innkeeper on Ameland. Whether they used the property themselves as an inn is not clear, the building was used as an inn before 1918. In that year, it was purchased by the Waterfront Board of the Sea Diving of Oostdongeradeel, which converted it to the waterfront building in the following year. In that year the dormer was also built above the floor. In 1920 and in 1959, renovations took place. On the ceiling of the boardroom there is a wind direction device that is connected to the roof of the roof.

The property serves as an office of the Zeewerend Waterschap Fryslân (now: Wetterskip Fryslân) and is recognized as a national monument. It is by far the largest building in the village of Wierum. The remaining houses are mainly fishermen's homes. 53° 24′ 6″ NB, 6° 0′ 57″ OL
