WD-40

WD-40 is a brand name of a worldwide water-spraying spray developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, San Diego, California. Originally it was used to counteract corrosion; In later instance it was used for many other applications. The spray consists of a combination of different hydrocarbons.

WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement - 40th Attempt", referring to Larsen's 40th attempt to find a successful formula for its anti-corrosion agent. Also see
