Ximian was a company that provided open source desktop applications for Linux and Unix based on the GNOME platform. Ximian (formerly known as '' Helix Code '', and earlier as '' International GNOME Support '', although this name was used only during the planning phase) was founded by Miguel de Icaza and Nat Friedman in October 1999 and was acquired by Novell on August 4, 2003. Novell intends to continue and extend the development of all current Ximian projects using its name, adding support for its Groupwise and ZENworks software.

On the one hand, Ximian has developed new products, and on the other hand, it has handled existing open source projects in order to offer a more valuable work. All of these projects are included in its Ximian Desktop product - a set of open source applications integrated with the aim of offering all the tools a typical worker user might need. The so-known Ximianized versions of GNOME, OpenOffice.org, and Pidgin are alongside the following completely new applications:

Ximian was a founding member of the Desktop Linux Consortium and guides the development of Mono, a free Microsoft .NET free software. In addition to the founders of Ximian, Novell now also has many luminaries of the open source, including Dave Camp, Robert Love, Federico Mena and Joe Shaw. Links externalize the wikitesto
