Baktun

In the Mayan calendar, the baktun was a period of 20 katun or 400 tun of 360 days. That is, a baktun spanned a period of less than four centuries (144,000 days).

Although the end of a katun was often accompanied by religious rituals and the founding of a memorial stone, there are remarkably few memorials of, for example, the 10th baktun turn at 10.0.0.0.0 in 830. Only in Oxpemul, a lesser important city, and in Uaxactún, a city that was emerging, its stones were found. Otherwise, the baking exchange was greeted with fear rather than with joy.
