Ballets C of the B

Les Ballets C de la B (full: Les Ballets Contemporains de la Belgique) was founded in 1984 by Alain Platel. Meanwhile, this dance and theater company is known at home and abroad.

Les Ballets C de la B is often mentioned in one breath with Wim Vandekeybus, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Jan Lauwers and Jan Fabre, all artists who were in the 1980s for a quarrel in the Flemish stage landscape, the so-called Flemish Golf. Collective

Les Ballets C de la B made the world famous with an eclectic, almost surrealistic mix of contemporary dance, text theater and music. Throughout the years, the company has developed into an artistic platform for various choreographers, which is next to Alain Platel by Christine De Smedt and Koen Augustijnen. Previously Hans van den Broeck also became part of the company until he founded his own group of Soit in 2002. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, today as artistic director at Ballet Flanders and at his own company Eastman, was a choreographer at Les Ballets C de la B until 2006.

Still, Les Ballets C de la B likes to take promising young artists from different disciplines and backgrounds (such as guest choreographers Lisi Estaràs and Ted Stoffer) to participate in this creative process. Due to the mix of artistic visions that constantly pollinate each other, Les Ballets C. de la B. does not fall into a single denominator. Nevertheless, such a thing comes as a corporate style (popular, anarchist, eclectic, committed) under the motto: "This dance is of the world and the world is of everyone."

Finally, Les Ballets C de la B is looking forward to being a socially committed group. Evidence of this eg. the regular collaboration with artists from Palestine, who in difficult circumstances try to draw an interesting artistic track. Key figures Sources
