The Capital of Catalan Culture is a name that has been awarded to another Catalan language city since 2004 by the independent Institute of Capital of the Cultura Catalana. The aim is to contribute to the spread, use and social prestige of Catalan language and culture, to enhance the cultural cohesion of the different territories and to promote the chosen city, both inside and outside of Catalonia. < / p>

The name of Cultural Capital dates back to 1985, when Athens was named European Capital of Culture. From that moment on, several regions and cultures have taken over this idea. List of Capital Cities of Catalan Culture
