Jan Berends Hommes (christened Vlagtwedde, October 6, 1765 - there, July 20, 1837) was a Dutch mayor. Life and work
Hommes was a son of Berent Jans Hommes and Annegien ter Horst. He was a farmer in Vlagtwedde. Hommes became Maire of Vlagtwedde in 1811. In 1813 this function was called and named Mayor in 1825. He fulfilled the mayor's position until he died in July 1837 at the age of 71. He was succeeded as mayor by the attorney and notary of Wedde Mr. Johannes Sixtus Gerhardus Koning. Hommes married Vlagtwedde with Jantijn Harms on April 15, 1798 and remarried on December 31, 1805 in Vlagtwedde with Elsijn Harms Luring, daughter of Harm Hannes Luring and Wupke Harms.
