Otger is a saint who was a missionary in the eighth century.

Lifecycle

He came from England and would come to the mainland as deacon along with Wiro and Plechelmus. Van Otger is very little to say with certainty. In Stadtlohn, Germany, he is the founder of the oldest church there. According to the tradition, he was buried in Sint Odiliënberg. Relictions of Otgerus are located in Sint Odiliënberg, the Martinikerk in Groningen and the Sint Maarten church in Utrecht. Worship

Otger was declared holy in the tenth century by Bishop Balderik of Utrecht. He is the patron saint of Stadtlohn. In the Netherlands he is connected to the oldest church in Groningen, the current Martinikerk. Perhaps one of the predecessors of that church was dedicated to Otger. In the present Martinikerk there is a vaulting of him. His name day, September 10th, was in the Middle Ages in Groningen as a payday.
