Robert de Bendère


Robert de Bendère (pseudonym of Robert Bender) (Brussels, 11 August 1898 - 22 January 1950) was a Belgian art critic of the interbellum.

He was a lawyer and, from his Jewish root, a Zionist.

He was an employee of the Antwerp Art magazine "La Vie Artistique", at Ghent Artistique and La Nervie. He was the author of books in the series "Artistes d'aujourd'hui", part 2 dedicated to Creten Georges, Henri Puvrez and Willem Paerels.

Further monographs about J. Van Looy, Jakob Smits, Jehan Frison, Alfred Delaunois (1935), Kurt Peiser, Médard Verburgh and Albert Droesbeke and also the publication "Peintres de Belgique. Ceux de demain "(Kortrijk, 1928).

His writing style was quite extensive with regard to aesthetic descriptions, but his texts were generally little rich in biographical facts. Literature
