Sibe of Aangium

Sibe van Aangium is a pseudonym of Hendrik Steen (Anjum, 21 November 1895 - Haren (Groningen), September 12, 1953). The reformed pastor has become famous as a writer of historical children's books.

Hendrik Steen studied theology in Kampen and at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. In 1937 he graduated from the University of Münster on the dissertation Das Leib-Seele-Problem in the Philosophy of Hollands im 19. and 20. Jahrhundert.

Hendrik Steen was reformed pastor at Zoutkamp (1922-1926), Den Helder (1926-1928) and Andijk (1928-1942). He took an active part in the theological and church political discussions of his time. From his hand appeared various theological works, but he became known as Sibe van Aangium, the author of adventure books for the youth.

The main characters in their work experience their adventures in northeastern Friesland against the backdrop of important historical events in history, such as the eighties war, French time, the Belgian uprising and the second world war. They play a role in the local consequences of the major historical events (Petite Histoire).

The Hotse Hiddes Trilogy, the Schnuck Trilogy and Black Mus Trilogy Smugglers are best known and are still being read.

In the Friesch Dagblad, the feuilleton Sjouk van Holdinge appeared as the only fictional writing written for adults.

His work is Christian-moralistic in nature. Themes like charity, forgiveness and the ability of real love to bridge political and cultural differences are back in all his work.
