Frederik Willem Nicolaas (Ludwigslust, March 5, 1827 - Heidelberg, 28 July 1879), Duke of Mecklenburg, was the second son of Grand Duke Paul Frederik of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Alexandrine of Prussia, daughter of Frederik Willem III. >

He took office in the Prussian army and became commander of the sixth regiment curators. On December 9, 1865, he married Alexandrine of Prussia, daughter of Albert van Prussia and Marianne van Oranje-Nassau. From this marriage, one daughter was born: Charlotte (1868-1944).

In the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866, as General General, he commanded a cavalry corps brigade. In the French-German War he commandered as a Lieutenant General a cavalry division, but he was injured at Laon on September 9, 1870. As a result, he was absent from the front for a long time and showed a great lack of energy at the Battle of Le Mans. He became the commander of the 22nd division in Kassel in 1873, but only completed an honorary function in 1874. He died on July 28, 1879.
