Carlo Merkel

Carlo Merkel (Turin, 1862 - Pavia, 1899) was an Italian historian.

Born in Turin on July 10, 1862, Carlo Merkel was a student at the University of Turin, historian, paleographer and diplomat Carlo Cipolla. He graduated with praise at that University in the academic year 1886-1887. Recall the date of 1886 publishing his thesis, "Manfredi I and Manfredi II Lancia, Contribution to Italian Political and Literary History in the Swabian Age", for the Ermanno Loescher types. The work was reported with consensus in the same year by the "Historical Journal of Italian Literature" (vol VIII). In the academic year 1888-1889 he specialized in the University of Munich, where he attended the courses of historian Henry Simonsfeld. Secretary of the ISI, soon obtained the chair at the University of Pavia and in 1897 he was appointed a member of the Lincei. Among his works are still quoted "As Decameron Men Dressed" (1898) and "Adelaide of Savoy Electrician of Bavaria. Contribution to the Millennial Civil and Political History" (1992).

He died in Pavia on March 15, 1899.
