Hope and future

Hope and Future (Original English Title: Hopes and Prospects) is a 2010 Noam Chomsky Book.

The book is a collection of essays that originated in a series of nominations in Chile in 2006. Chomsky analyzes developments in North and South America and the Middle East. He was hopefully voted by the "left-wing" changes in Latin America. He mentions developments in Bolivia, Venezuela and Haiti, where developments are taking place against the United States dominance. Less hopeful is he for Barack Obama, who appears to follow the track of his predecessors, and can not reverse the trend towards an increasingly "right-wing" United States.

Chomsky is particularly critical of the Monroedoctrine as a statement for all US interventions in the Western Hemisphere. Nor should he know anything about American support to Israel and, more generally, their role in the Middle East.

He uses strong adjectives, especially for his own North American society, which is aggressively militaristic and arrogant imperialist. European colonization and then the policy of all US presidents, "on Carter's after", are repeatedly called killing or murderous. He speaks of the murderous conquest of Spanish Florida (page 60) or the terrorist war against Cuba (page 61).

The modern version of the conquest is called globalization. They are the strongest who economically impose their will and, in their interests, propagate free trade for the poor countries.
