Love and Marriage

Love and Marriage is a song by Sammy Cahn (text) and James Van Heusen (music), from the music version of "Our Town", to the play of Thornton Wilder. It was broadcast on American television in 1955 with Frank Sinatra, Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint in the lead roles. Capitol Records released the song to an ep with four songs from the musical that year. Because the song was widely turned on the radio, Capitol released it in September 1955 as a single, in an arrangement by Nelson Riddle who also directed the orchestra. The B-side, "The Impatient Years", was also a song from the musical. There were also other versions, including Dinah Shore on Victor and the Laurie Sisters on Mercury. Sinatra's version was best sold and became a top ten in the United States. In the Billboard Top 100 for the week ending November 30, 1955, it was number 7 and the version of Dinah Shore at 47. It was at number 6 on January 14, 1956. "Love and Marriage" also received an Emmy Award in 1955.

In 1965, Frank Sinatra released a new recording of the song, also in an arrangement by Nelson Riddle, on the label Reprise Records.

The song was later used as the title song for the television sitcom "Married ... with Children". As a result, it was released in 1991 in the Netherlands and climbed it to number 9 in the Dutch Top 40.

André van Duin sang his version in 1992 under the title Big feet.
