Parootectes


Paroo dects was a prehistoric predator of the Miacides, who lived in the Eocene in the rainforests and swamps of present Germany.

Paroo dects had the size and appearance of a domestic cat and were well adapted to an abnormal existence, as evidenced by the bones of the pelvis and shoulder strap. The long tail gave balance when climbing and jumping from branch to branch. Probably, Paroo dectes are hunting in the tree tops on insecticides, rodents and half-legs. Also young ungulates were probably captured by waiting for them in the trees, just like the current panthers. Also see
