Rod Delmonico

Rodney James Delmonico (Wilmington, May 14, 1958) is an American baseball coach. Delmonino has been the Dutch Baseball team coach since January 1, 2009. He followed Robert Unicorn, who continued his career as technical director of the KNBSB. Delmonico is the 18th American who performed the role of coach of the Dutch baseball team.

Delmonico began his career as a baseball coach right after his graduation in 1980 as assistant coach of the Gloucester County College team from New Jersey. From 1981 to 1983 he was assistant coach at Clemson University, after which he became an assistant coach at the Florida State University team. Here he would remain active until 1990. During that period, the team ended in the top 15 and participated in three College World Series. During that time, 21 players from Florida State University were selected in the draft by Major League Baseball clubs.

In 1990, Delmonico was named Chief Coach of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. With this he achieved so many successes that he became the most successful university coach of all time. The team won six times the College World Series and played in 14 regional championships. There were 10 conference or division titles and nine conference tournament championships. Delmonico was also the coach of R.A. Dickey and Augie Ojeda, who won the bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics with the American baseball team. In his 18 years at Tennessee, 73 players were brave, including 10 in the first round. 95 players managed to win a professional contract.

As of January 1, 2009, Delmonico was appointed as a coach of the Dutch baseball team. His first major tournament with that team was the 2009 World Baseball Classic, which made a great surprise by defeating the favorite Dominican Republic twice, with 3-2 and 2-1.
