District Zhabei
Zhabei (Simplified Chinese: 闸北 区, Traditional Chinese: 閘北 區, Pinyin: Zháběi Qū) is a district in central Shanghai, in the north of Puxi. The area is 29.26 km² and amounted to 810,211 inhabitants in 2003.
The district has made efforts to develop business areas and commercial districts within the area, including Shanghai Multimedia Valley, a high concentration of media and IT companies. Among other things, Royal Philips Electronics and Shanghai Bell Alcatel Business Systems Co., Ltd are located. The district is also the location of the University of Shanghai.
