Bugle call

Hejnał while running from the tower

Hejnał is the "collection call" that is performed every hour from the highest tower of the Church of Santa Maria in Krakow, Poland; was used in the past as a guard tower.

The short melody remembers what in 1241 tried to play the sentinel of then to warn of the imminent invasion by the Tatars. The assailants were faster and an arrow smashed the throat of the sentinel from the earliest notes, which is why the current trumpet player still interrupts the melody in the middle of a joke.

Hejnał is playing four times (one for each side of the tower) every hour every day of the year, and is retransmitted every day at 12 o'clock in the Polish National Radio.
