Columbus Circle is the semicircle of Union Station in Washington D.C. It is located at the intersection of Delaware Avenue, Louisiana Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue. The square is a short distance from the Capitol and is connected by Delaware Avenue. The square is surrounded by flags of each of the fifty US states in the order of accession to the Union plus the flags of the US territories and the District of Columbia.

In the middle of the square is a statue of Christopher Columbus, known as the Columbus Statue, Columbus Fountain or Columbus Memorial Fountain. The monument was made by American sculptor Lorado Taft and was unveiled on June 8, 1912. The inscription states: "To the memory of Christopher Columbus whose high faith and indomitable courage gave to mankind a new world / Born MCDXXXVI / Died MDIV".
