Double (Beer)

Westmalle Double

Double is a type of boiling beer, usually with a bottle fermentation, but not always the case. The color is usually medium to dark brown.

The term "double" refers to the amount of grain per liter of water used in brewing. This applies to: The more grain, the more sugar, the more alcohol.

Double has a lower alcohol percentage than triple; usually around 7%. Well-known double beers are Duke Jan Dubbel, IJ Wet, La Trappe Dubbel, Ommegang Abbey Ale, Westmalle Double, White Pater Dubbel, Gerardus Wittems Clover Beer Double etc. Also see
