Edward W. Clayborn

Reverend Edward W. Clayborn was an American evangelist, singer and guitarist known as the Guitar Evangelist. He sang a form of blues gospel that was related to the songs by Blind Willie Johnson. Clayborn took forty songs for Vocalion between 1926 and 1930, who wanted to conquer a share in the race market with the release of Clayborn records. This market was dominated initially by Okeh, Columbia and Paramount Records. Clayborn was successful with "Your Enemy Can not Harm You" and "The Gospel Train is Coming", after which he made more recordings in Chicago, one of which could be done with the help of Cow Cow Davenport and Hound Head Henry.
