Joachimkroniek

The Joachim chronicle (Russian: Иоакимовская Летопись) (or Ioachim, Ioakim Kroniek) is a chronicle that was discovered by Vasili Tatishchev in the 18th century. Tatishchev thought that the chronicle was written by Joachim van Chersonesos († 1030) and used it for his book History of Russia. However, later research shows that the chronicle is probably much later composed of earlier sources; in the 17th century by patriarch Joachim († 1690). The original chronicle has been lost and the content has to be derived from the book of Tishchev. The chronicle describes a number of events dating back to the 10th century in the area that later formed the Kiev Empire and the Republic of Novgorod. The authenticity of the chronicle is contested, especially when compared to past events.
